I love me some Marisha Pessl. I've read (and devoured) her two previous books - CALAMITY PHYSICS is one of my all-time favorites. I love Marisha's love for books - it's evident on every page of her writing, and this was no different. THE BEND was a central hinge of the storytelling, and layered in a unique literary element to what was happening in the Neverworld. The characters were all fully-fleshed out humans, not always the case in ensemble novels, and I quickly gained affinity for both Bea and Martha.
NEVERWORLD WAKE made me think about a lot of big picture issues, and fathom what I myself would do if stuck in this situation. Enumerating the endless number of days that they found ways to infiltrate the police department, onto rich folks' yachts, and other ways to buck the system was one of my favorite chapters.
Marisha's foray into YA is definitely a successful one.
